Accommodation

Pippins is a Self-catering holiday cottage and comfortably sleeps up to four people.

The living arrangement is “Upside-down” with lounge and kitchen upstairs and bedrooms downstairs.

Upstairs

The open-plan living room and kitchen/dining area overlook the surrounding hills making the most of the wonderful views. This is a great place to relax after a long day’s walk in the Welsh hills with two three-seater sofas, a Smart TV with Free-Sat and Blu-ray DVD player. The vaulted ceiling and Velux roof-lights give this area a light and spacious feeling even on dull days, and you can look up into the sky where you might catch a glimpse of circling Buzzards or Red Kites. For the intrepid explorer we provide walking maps of the local area and lots of tourist information leaflets to help you plan your day. For the birdwatcher binoculars and a bird identification book are provided, and we are gradually building up our board game collection to offer guests the chance to play something new. Throw in the mix a selection of books and we hope our guests will never be at a loose end!

The well equipped kitchen has all you need for your stay, including microwave oven, electric cooker, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher and toaster. The kitchen utility cupboard houses a washing machine/tumble drier, clothes airer, ironing board and iron. Our guests often remark that we have thought of everything and we have certainly tried to do this, with plenty of china, cooking, bakeware and utensils, down to a potato ricer and pizza cutter. A very pleasant dining experience can be had at the kitchen table, watching the many birds on the feeders outside.

Relax, unwind and enjoy the festive season in the comfort of your very own country cottage. Pippins will be decorated for your arrival, so sit back and enjoy a Christmas or New Year getaway. If you plan to cook, we can provide a three pan Buffet Server to help keep all those extra servings hot. Pippins is the perfect retreat, whether you look forward to long winter walks in the crisp country air, or simply to shake off the Christmas chaos with a good book.

Downstairs

On the ground floor are the two bedrooms and two shower rooms of which one is en-suite. The main bedroom is to the front of Pippins and has a very comfortable king size bed, modern en suite shower room and enjoys views over the Welsh hills. There is a built-in wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables with touch control lamps, useful for relaxing in bed with a good book. Extra snuggly throws can be found in the wardrobe if needed, although our guests have found Pippins to be very warm and cosy, even in the worst of the Welsh weather.

The second bedroom has twin beds to the same high standard as the main bedroom and is a cosy, comfortable room with wardrobe, bedside tables and touch control lamps.

There is an under-stairs cupboard containing garden chairs and parasol for those sunny summer days.

The entrance porch provides a coat rack and space for boots and shoes. There is an outside tap to the front of Pippins, useful for washing off muddy boots and paws and to help dry your dog, towels are provided. We also provide a dog tag with our home phone number in the event of your dog going missing whilst away from home.

The Garden and Outside Space

With Castle Hill in the background and surrounded by the Welsh hills, this is an area made for relaxation with unrestricted and lovely views to the far countryside. The garden is fenced so that your dog is free to exercise, but please be aware that sheep are usually on the adjoining fields. Here there is a feeling of isolation, yet the town of Llandrindod Wells is only over the next hill. It could be a hundred miles away! The lane to our farmhouse and Pippins ends at our gate so there is no passing traffic and the only people you are likely to see are the occasional walkers or a local farmer on the Public Right of Way that passes to the front of Pippins. There is a picnic bench on the patio area and a brick-built barbecue for guests to enjoy in the warmer months. There is a small pick your own herb garden available to use between spring and autumn. We have a variety of herbs including parsley, chives, thyme, mint, rosemary, tarragon and fennel.

If you venture outside at dusk you may see bats leaving their roost and we have captured on our trail camera a Tawny Owl hunting in Pippins garden at night.

Ample parking is adjacent to Pippins entrance.

We are surrounded by 16 acres of our own land, some of which is our private garden, but the majority is open for guests to explore. The land is on a hillside so please be aware that there are slopes and banks in places and please keep dogs on a lead at all times outside of Pippins garden.

There is a picnic bench for guests’ use situated in the field overlooking St Michael’s Church down in the Ithon River valley. The bench overlooks the Public Right of Way leading down the hillside to the Church and valley below, a very peaceful and isolated spot.

Tawny Wood is a newly planted area, established in March 2020 by 9Trees  .

9 is the number of trees required to ‘balance’ the average UK citizen’s carbon consumption each year. Do take a look at their website to learn more. You are welcome to walk to this new woodland which is situated down the hill to the front of Pippins. At the bottom of this hill is the tree where our resident Tawny Owls nest – hence the name!

In 2020 we created a new Wildlife Pond in our garden to the front of Pippins. Please be aware if staying with younger children that this pond is unfenced. Guests may also make use of the bench overlooking the pond and the countryside beyond. This bench was generously gifted by guests who are regular visitors to Pippins and donated for all of Pippins’ visitors to enjoy.
